Dear Armstrong Dentistry family and friends,

As healthcare workers, our top priority is the safety of our staff and patients. Our office has always followed the top "Universal Precautions" protocol established by the CDC. This course of infection control has always been to treat all materials as if they were known to be infectious for HIV, staph, hepatitis, or other blood-borne pathogens. These procedures are designed to keep our staff and patients safe from infectious agents much more virile than Coronavirus.

However, the problem with Coronavirus is the large window of transmissibility and the lack of visible symptoms while either infected with, or while carrying the virus from one place - or even surface - to another.

In keeping with the most current information available, and while working with all safety protocols in place established by the CDC on an ongoing basis, we, along with the Ohio State Dental Board and Governor Mike DeWine, have made the decision to temporarily suspend all elective and non-emergent treatment at our office, to be re-evaluated on a week-by-week basis.

This means that beginning today, all hygiene appointments will be canceled for the current week. On Friday, we will assess the latest data gathered regarding the spread of Covid-19 (Coronavirus), and evaluate what our hygiene patient schedule will be for the following week. We will continue in this fashion until we have reached the end of this crisis; until government agencies have lifted the restrictions; or unless/until we have new information or data that would supersede this action plan.

We WILL continue to see patients who have dental emergencies; however, we will be putting extra levels of protection for the safety of our staff and patients, and for reducing the potential of transmission to people outside of our practice.

EMERGENCY VISITS:

  • In the event that a family member has symptoms related to those associated with the Coronavirus (fever, persistent cough, shortness of breath), we ask that you please do not come to our office.
  • We encourage the use of approved (at least 60%) alcohol-based hand sanitizers by patients and their family members upon entering and leaving the office. Sanitizers are provided for use in our office for ease of use.
  • If using the restroom, or exiting and re-entering our office, we ask that you use the hand sanitizers provided upon reentry.
  • Please inform us if you are currently experiencing a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing.
  • Please note that we will be limiting social distance, including handshaking, as a means of decreasing possible transmission of Coronavirus.
  • Please inform us of any recent travel outside of the US to any areas considered Level Three Precaution by the CDC. As of March 12, 2020, this includes China, Italy, South Korea, and Iran.
  • Please inform us if you have traveled within the United States.
  • Please do not bring food or beverages into the office.

EXTRA FAMILY MEMBERS AT APPOINTMENTS:

  • As a temporary measure, we ask that you do not bring extra family members to appointments, except for those emergency patients who require extra assistance (as example, a child, or an elderly or physically-compromised patient). We ask that others please wait in the car.
  • Please check in at the front desk. If you arrive early, our staff can call you on your mobile phone if you would prefer to wait in your car until we are ready to see you.

WHAT OUR OFFICE IS DOING:

  • Check-in Station: We have eliminated the self-check-in computer in our lobby. Please check in with the front desk upon arrival.
  • Lobby items: We have removed items such as children's art station, magazines, and waiting room computer to minimize community-contact items.
  • Treatment Operatories: Our operatories are ALWAYS cleaned and disinfected between each patient. We follow strict infection control protocols, including the use of autoclaves (high-heat sterilizers), personal protective equipment, and hospital-grade commercial disinfectants that are bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, and tuberculocidal, on all surfaces.
  • In addition to our normal cleaning and sterilization practices, frequent office cleaning with extra focus on high-traffic, high-touch areas (e.g. door handles, front office countertops/tables, chair arms, etc.) will be performed with the recommended anti-bacterial and germicidal cleaners.

We truly appreciate our patients, staff, and families, and we appreciate your understanding while we implement these policies for the safety of everyone in our community.

We wish you nothing but the best of health and well-being.

Sincerely,
Dr. Armstrong and Staff
